The Rules


The Rules

 

  1. The name of the society shall be the Leeson Park Players and shall be referred to in the rules as “The Players”.
  2. The Players shall aim at the production of at least two plays each year. The Players may also organise other social functions.
  3. The Minister of the Centenary Methodist Church shall be President.
  4. The affairs of The Players shall be managed by a committee composed of the Hon. Secretary, the Hon. Treasurer, and five committee members. A chair person shall be elected for each meeting from amongst the committee members present. The President and Vice-Presidents may attend by request. Four to form a quorum. No committee member shall serve for more that 3 years consecutively.
  5. The committee shall have the power to co-opt members to fill such vacancies as may occur in their number.
  6. An Annual General Meeting shall be held at the beginning of each season for
    1. the presentation and, if accepted, the adoption of the Hon. Secretary’s and Hon. Treasurer’s reports for the previous season,
    2. the election of Hon. Officers and committee
    3. the fixing of the amount of the annual subscription
    4. such other business as may be notified in the agenda.
  7. The annual subscription shall be payable at the A.G.M. and no member whose subscription remains unpaid shall receive any benefit from The Players.
  8. Candidates for membership shall be proposed and seconded by existing members and shall be elected by a vote of the committee. Candidates who do not know members to propose or second them can be elected after assisting with the presentation of a play.
  9. A copy of the rules shall be forwarded to each member on election.
  10. The property of The Players shall be vested in the committee for the time being. In the event of the dissolution of The Players, the assets shall be realised and distributed to charity as decided by the committee.
  11. No expenditure shall be incurred without the sanction of the committee.
  12. Each play shall be cast by the producer and a casting committee of 3 members who shall have indicated to the Hon. Secretary that they are not available for casting. In the event of a vote being necessary, the producer shall have 2 votes, and each other member 1 vote. It shall be the responsibility of these 4 people to see that parts are fairly allocated, giving all persons available a reasonable opportunity of competing for them and preserving a balance between experienced and inexperienced players. One exception shall be in the casting of plays for competition, in which case it shall be understood that the best players available shall be chosen.
  13. Should a member notify the Hon. Secretary that he/she would like to be considered for a part but be unable to attend the casting rehearsal, the casting committee shall have the power to include his/her name in their deliberations.
  14. The producer of any play may be invited to attend any committee meeting held during the production of the play.
  15. The producer shall have the power to recommend to the committee the withdrawal from the cast of any member who seems likely to prove a hindrance to the development of the play.
  16. Should a person who is not a member of The Players be requested by the committee or producer to take part in a play, such a person can do so without necessarily becoming a member, but for one play only.
  17. The committee or 10 members shall have the power to call Extraordinary General Meetings of The Players, and at all such meetings the Chairman shall only allow discussion on the matter for which the meeting has been convened.
  18. No alteration in, or addition to, these rules shall be made except by a majority of three fourths of those voting at a general meeting. Formal notice of the proposed alteration shall be given to the Hon. Secretary at least 14 days before the meeting, and the revised wording shall be given in the notice convening the meeting.
